The findings of the 2008 Cone Business in Social Media Study indicate that people want companies to enter the social media arena. The study, which states that 60% of Americans use social media, found that 85% of those users think that companies should have significant interaction with their customers through social media. 56% of the group further indicated that they feel a stronger connection to and better served by companies who interacted with them through social media.

The study had some other interesting information for companies or individuals who are thinking about adding social media to their marketing mix;

  • 60% of Americans regularly interact with companies on a social media site
    • 25% of those interact at least once weekly
  • 43% of consumers say that companies should use social networks to solve the consumers’ problems
  • 41% believe that companies should use social media tools to solicit feedback on products and services
  • Men are more likely to use social media tools to interact with a company than women (33% vs. 17%)
  • 33% of younger consumers (18-34) and those with household incomes over $75,000 believe that companies should try to market to them through social networks

  • We have a new LA Fitness that I've grown tired of suffering in. THe air conditioner is too high, there are never any towels and sanitizer to whipe stuff down. I twittered @LAFitness and griped from a treadmill. Nada, they don't do it. Shame. I was profoundly disappointed.

    I will add, however, that @ComcastCares has solved monumental issues from me toot sweet when they get involved. I think heads roll when you go thru that service. People call from corporate apologizing, etc. I'm down with comcast!
