Recently, I’ve become a bit of a plugin ho. I love finding new tools that enhance the blogging experience for me and the reading/browsing experience for my readers. In the last few months I’ve been using a plugin called Apture that may be the best one I’ve found yet.

I like embedding things in blog post, like pictures, links and videos. What I don’t enjoy is the number of steps it takes to find pictures that I want. The internet is here to serve me and make my life easier, right? I don’t want to go to Flickr (my photo haven of choice), click search, click advanced search, click the license level I’m looking for, then begin the search, find the image, copy the address, then keep going back and forth to get the info I need. By using Apture I can browse through multiple picture sites and find the photos I want with the proper license level. Not only that, but when I embed a link, it creates a pop-up preview. Here’s the kicker, though – when you embed a YouTube video using Apture, you can “edit” it, choosing the in and out points for the video, in case you only want to show a short clip.

Apture’s made blogging a much smoother process for me. Are you using it? If no, what plugins are you rocking right now?

    Hal,
This is one of the tidbits I took away from #VREBC (part 1) and have appeared like a wordpress guru to everyone I've shared it with since! I didn't know about the You Tube editing, so thank you! One of the great features I like is if you reference someone's twitter name (ie @tamcdonald) You can use Apture to link and it will automatically show info and last few tweets of the person, plus ability to follow them. I really like this, especially in a list of people. You can selectively choose who you'd like to follow. Love to hear about other great plugins!
  • I actually missed that session - I think it may have been Tony (or TLazz, as the kids say) who turned me on to it. The preview stuff just blows my mind and creates such a rich reading experience. I also love the little Wibiya bar floating below - easier RSS subscriptions, fan page links and twitter displays that rock. They were in a private invite beta but have since opened it up to the public, and your can customize which applications adorn the bar. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Hal, probably was @TonyLazz! We were watching #VREBC with @MissDibbs at an in person viewing in Chicago! Thanks for reminding me about Wibiya. I installed in very early on on my site, but not the blog. Just checked it out again and they have made a ton of improvements! Think I learned about that one from @agentgenius. Great to have each other to learn, inform and share with each other! I'll provide more of my thoughts after using it for a while!
